Occupancy means that your home is ready for you to live in. You will need to hire and schedule many different trades that are competent and can meet deadlines to get to this stage.
You may choose to work with the general contractor or hire trades directly to complete the exterior and interior of the home to occupancy. Working with an interior designer may be helpful in arranging the purchase and installation of flooring, cabinets and millwork.
Your construction contract is complete when final inspection has taken place and deficiencies identified by the inspector have been remedied. Arrange for a final “walk through” with your contractor on completion of this work. Final payment needs to be made and any holdbacks released within the agreed time period.
